Ingredients:
For the cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar

  • 4 large eggs, room temperature

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup whole milk, room temperature

  • Pink & blue gel food coloring

For the buttercream frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 4 cups powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Pink & blue gel food coloring

For decoration:

  • Cotton candy (pink & blue)

  • White chocolate or candy melts (for drip effect)

  • Sprinkles


Instructions:

  1. Prepare the cake batter:

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.

    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

    • In a large mixing bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).

    • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.

    • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.

  2. Color & bake:

    • Divide batter into three portions. Keep one plain, color one pink, and one blue.

    • Pour each into a separate cake pan. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

    • Cool completely before frosting.

  3. Make the buttercream frosting:

    • Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with cream.

    • Beat in vanilla extract. Divide into three portions and tint one pink, one blue, leaving one white.

  4. Assemble the cake:

    • Place blue cake layer on a serving plate, spread blue frosting on top.

    • Add white cake layer, spread white frosting.

    • Add pink cake layer, spread pink frosting all over cake for crumb coat. Chill for 30 minutes.

  5. Decorate:

    • Apply final frosting layers in ombre effect (blue bottom, white middle, pink top).

    • Melt white chocolate or candy melts, drizzle along the edges for the drip effect.

    • Top with cotton candy just before serving and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles.
