Breakthrough in Cancer Treatment: New Method Increases Radiotherapy Effectiveness by 300%

Post-surgery radiotherapy is a treatment aimed at reducing the risk of cancer recurrence. However, the larger the tumor, the lower the success rate.

Now, Japanese scientists have discovered a way to overcome this challenge. They have utilized hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), commonly known as oxygenated water, to create a toxic environment for cancer cells. When injected into a tumor, H₂O₂ weakens the cancer cells, making them more susceptible to radiation therapy.

A Revolutionary Approach: Hydrogen Peroxide and Radiotherapy

Initial studies in Japan on breast cancer patients using a new treatment called "Kochi Oxydol-Radiation Therapy for Unresectable Carcinomas" (KORTUC) have shown significant tumor shrinkage.

A study published in the Molecular and Clinical Oncology journal found that injecting H₂O₂ alongside radiotherapy led to an average tumor shrinkage of 97%three times more effective than conventional radiotherapy, according to the Daily Mail.

How Hydrogen Peroxide Works

🔬 H₂O₂ creates a toxic environment for cancer cells, making them weaker and more responsive to radiation.
🩸 It increases oxygen levels in the tumor, making it harder for cancer cells to survive.
Tumor reduction is accelerated, significantly improving treatment outcomes.

Encouraging Results from Clinical Studies

A study conducted at the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital in the UK included 12 patients with inoperable breast tumors. These patients received H₂O₂ injections twice a week for three weeks before undergoing radiotherapy.

The results showed that this method helped control tumor growth for up to two years.

Dr. Navita Somaiah, a clinical oncologist at Royal Marsden Hospital, stated that this treatment could be applied to multiple types of cancer, not just breast cancer.

Another study, published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, and Physics, found that for patients who did not respond to conventional treatments, combining radiotherapy with H₂O₂ injections helped control tumor growth for 12–24 months.

A Game-Changer for Cancer Treatment

🔹 H₂O₂ is an affordable, widely available compound that has shown great potential in enhancing radiotherapy.
🔹 This breakthrough could lead to more effective breast cancer treatments or even open doors to new therapeutic approaches.

The solution used in this therapy contains only 0.5% H₂O₂, much weaker than conventional antiseptics.
