School board meeting descends into brawl over teacher's Charlie Kirk comments

A school board meeting spiraled into chaos after heated arguments broke out over a teacher allegedly mocking conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed earlier this month.

Kirk, co-founder of the organization Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. His death has since sparked emotional reactions across the country, including at the Regional School Unit 67 board meeting where the issue of a teacher’s remarks was raised.

Clash ignites at board meeting

At the meeting, conservative influencer Tim Bodnar—known online as the “Truth-slinger”—confronted district officials, condemning what he described as “communist propaganda” in the classroom. He accused a teacher of disrespecting Kirk in comments made shortly after the activist’s death, though the specific remarks have not been publicly disclosed.

Footage from the meeting showed Bodnar loudly criticizing the district while Board Chair Dianne Buck attempted to call for order.

“You can bang that all you want, lady,” Bodnar said, dismissing Buck’s attempts to quiet the room.

As the confrontation escalated, Bodnar demanded that counseling be offered to students he claimed were “hurt by Charlie Kirk’s death that [the teacher] dissed.”

“He can have free speech,” Bodnar declared, “he just can’t have a job on taxpayer money!”

Verbal sparring with board members

The situation quickly intensified when Bodnar accused Buck of ignoring him, prompting board member Andrew Funaro to intervene.

“You’re a foul, evil woman! You’re a coward!” Bodnar shouted at Buck.

“Don’t you insult that woman!” Funaro retorted.

“Why not?” Bodnar asked.

“Because she’s doing the best she can, and you don’t know what we think,” Funaro said. “We haven’t made a decision yet.”

Bodnar shot back: “You should have made a decision when you found out!”

Funaro replied that the board had only learned of the incident on Friday, insisting: “We’re doing the best we can.”

“It’s too slow. The world is moving on way too fast for you, old man!” Bodnar shouted, intensifying the tension.

Confrontation escalates into chaos

Following a recess, the meeting resumed but quickly descended further into disorder. Police asked one attendee to leave, while Bodnar began filming the proceedings.

“You know I’m right, sir,” he told Funaro.

“I do not know you’re right!” Funaro fired back. “You should go back down south and get some more clicks on your little YouTube. Isn’t that what this is about?”

The exchange boiled over when Funaro slapped the phone out of Bodnar’s hand. Police officers then stepped in, and the meeting was abruptly adjourned.

Aftermath and statements

Bodnar later took to social media, describing the clash as the “proudest moment” of his life.

“The Holy Spirit of GOD indwelt me... I dropped my arms and let God fight my battle. Funaro withered in the presence of a REAL MAN,” he wrote.

In contrast, Funaro issued a statement defending his stance while also expressing admiration for Kirk.

“I am a Conservative and a great admirer of Charlie Kirk,” Funaro said. “I cannot speak for the Board but in my opinion any teacher who celebrates political violence in the classroom should be fired. It poisons the well for people who are actually doing the work to get indoctrination out of our schools like Charlie Kirk wanted.

“Though I disagree with my fellow Board members on many things, when it comes to a public menace invading our High School library, I will defend. I have total faith that the Board will do the right thing.”

Investigation underway

According to Lincoln Police Chief, the incident at the meeting is currently under investigation. No further details have been released about possible disciplinary action or charges stemming from the altercation.

The board has not yet disclosed how it plans to address the teacher’s alleged remarks about Charlie Kirk.
