According to The Independent on December 16, the urology team at Chi Mei Hospital in Tainan, Taiwan, was shocked to find over 300 kidney stones inside a 20-year-old girl named Xiao Yu. They performed surgery to remove the “huge” amount of stones.
Drinking Tea as a “Fuel” for Kidney Stones?
Xiao Yu was hospitalized in early December 2023 with severe back pain, lower abdominal pain, and a high fever.
After an examination, doctors found that her white blood cell count was unusually high, her right kidney was fluid-filled, and it was completely blocked by hard stones.
They decided to treat her with antibiotics, drain the fluid, and perform surgery to remove the kidney stones. However, the doctors were astounded when they removed 300 stones in various sizes, ranging from 5mm to 2cm.
She shared with the doctors that she often drank bubble milk tea or fruit juice instead of water. This habit likely led to chronic dehydration, which caused her urine to become more concentrated, and the minerals in it crystallized into stones.
Xiao Yu’s case serves as a wake-up call about health for those who frequently neglect drinking water, leading to severe dehydration.
Doctors at Chi Mei Hospital also advise the public to drink plenty of water to help the body function properly.
