Ingredients

For the Cake Layers:

  • 1 ½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup (50g) cocoa powder

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup (200g) sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (room temperature)

For the White Cream Filling:

  • 1 ½ cups (350ml) heavy whipping cream (chilled)

  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups (250g) powdered sugar

  • ½ cup (50g) cocoa powder

  • 2 tbsp heavy cream (or milk)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Ganache Drip:

  • ½ cup (90g) dark chocolate chips

  • ¼ cup (60ml) heavy cream

Decoration:

  • Shredded coconut (for edges)

  • White chocolate (melted, for the web design)


Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake Layers

    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch (20cm) round cake pans.

    • Mix dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, baking powder, soda, salt).

    • In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.

    • Alternate adding dry mix and milk, mixing until smooth.

    • Divide batter evenly into pans and bake for 25–30 min, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely, then slice each cake in half for 4 layers.

  2. Prepare the White Cream Filling

    • Whip chilled heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Keep cold.

  3. Make the Chocolate Buttercream

    • Beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, cocoa, and vanilla. Mix in cream until fluffy.

  4. Assemble the Cake

    • Place one cake layer, spread whipped cream filling. Repeat with next layer.

    • Cover cake with chocolate buttercream, smoothing the sides.

  5. Ganache Drip

    • Heat cream until warm, pour over chocolate chips, let sit 2 min, then stir smooth.

    • Pour ganache over top of cake, letting it drip down the edges.

  6. Decorate

    • Pipe swirls of chocolate buttercream on top edge.

    • Sprinkle shredded coconut around sides.

    • Use melted white chocolate to draw circles on top, then drag a toothpick from center outwards to create the web design.

Chill the cake for at least 1 hour before slicing for neat layers.
