Homemade Herbal Hair Oil – Adivasi Hair Oil

Creating your own herbal hair oil at home offers numerous advantages. Free from harmful chemicals and additives, DIY herbal oils are gentle on the scalp and hair. They also ensure the freshness and potency of natural ingredients, which can degrade over time in store-bought products.

Below is a traditional recipe for Adivasi Hair Oil—a nutrient-rich, time-tested remedy using coconut oil and a blend of powerful natural ingredients like onion, fenugreek seeds, and aloe vera.

🌿 DIY Herbal Hair Oil (Adivasi Hair Oil)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut oil

  • A handful of curry leaves

  • 1 tablespoon fenugreek seeds

  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds or kalonji (black cumin) seeds

  • 1 small onion

  • 1 medium aloe vera leaf

  • 4–5 peeled garlic cloves

  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves

  • 2–3 fresh hibiscus flowers (or 2 tablespoons dried hibiscus flowers)

🧪 Instructions:

1. Prepare the Ingredients

  • Wash all ingredients thoroughly: curry leaves, fenugreek seeds, onion, aloe vera, and hibiscus.

  • Chop the onion into small pieces.

  • Slice open the aloe vera leaf and scoop out the gel inside.

2. Infuse the Ingredients

  • In a medium saucepan, heat the coconut oil over low heat.

  • Add curry leaves, fenugreek seeds, black seeds, chopped onion, aloe vera gel, garlic cloves, rosemary, and hibiscus.

  • Let everything simmer gently for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally until the oil becomes aromatic and slightly brownish.

3. Cool and Strain

  • Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the oil to cool to room temperature.

  • Strain the mixture using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth to extract the infused oil.

4. Storage

  • Pour the strained oil into a clean, airtight container.

  • Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

5. Application

  • Before each use, warm a small amount of oil in your palms.

  • Massage gently into the scalp and through the hair for complete coverage.

  • Leave it on for at least 40 minutes or overnight for deep nourishment.

  • Wash off using a mild or baby shampoo with lukewarm water.
