Cape Coral, Florida – Not all heroes wear capes. Sometimes, they wear pajamas.

In the early hours of August 27, 2025, Kyle Myvett, a construction worker and former corrections officer, was woken up by his wife after their home security cameras detected unusual activity outside their house in Cape Coral. Still dressed in his Batman pajamas, Myvett rushed outside to investigate.

What he discovered was a burglary in progress. A 20-year-old suspect, later identified as Justin Schimpl, was rummaging through Myvett’s truck before fleeing into a neighbor’s garage. Without hesitation, Myvett confronted the intruder. Using his background in martial arts, he grabbed Schimpl by the shirt and wrist, forcing him to sit down and comply until police arrived.

Authorities later confirmed that Schimpl had stolen luxury items including two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses valued at $600, cash, jewelry, and more than $500 worth of gift cards. He now faces multiple felony charges, including burglary of a dwelling, vehicle burglaries, and petit theft. Police also noted that Schimpl was already known to law enforcement.

When asked about the unusual circumstances of his heroic act, Myvett credited his outfit for giving him an extra boost of courage. “I knew for some reason I should have worn that particular outfit,” he joked. “The Batman pajamas gave me the confidence I needed.”

The Cape Coral Police Department praised Myvett’s quick thinking, even posing for photos with him in his Batman attire after the arrest.

This lighthearted but courageous story quickly went viral, reminding many that everyday citizens can make a difference in their communities—even while wearing pajamas.

Gotham may have Batman, but Cape Coral now has its own pajama-clad Dark Knight.
