Trump admin live updates: Bondi deploying DOJ agents to 'under siege' ICE facilities
DOJ to Deploy Agents to “Under Siege” ICE Facilities
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced early Saturday on social media that she is deploying Department of Justice (DOJ) agents to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities facing unrest.
Bondi said agents will be sent to “ICE facilities — and wherever ICE comes under siege — to safeguard federal agents, protect federal property, and immediately arrest individuals engaged in any federal crime.”
The statement followed protests and clashes late Friday outside the ICE processing center in Broadview, Illinois, near Chicago.
Bondi cited what she called an “onslaught of violence perpetrated against ICE officers across our country” and said the DOJ, under President Donald Trump’s recent executive action, will instruct Joint Terrorism Task Forces to investigate “domestic terrorism,” including attacks and obstruction targeting federal agents.
She added that the department will pursue “the most serious available charges,” including conspiracy, assault, civil disorder, and terrorism offenses.
“While these never-ending attacks are designed to break our will, they only strengthen our resolve… The rule of law will prevail,” Bondi wrote.
Trump Orders Release of Amelia Earhart Records
On Friday, President Donald Trump ordered the declassification and release of all U.S. government records relating to aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, including her final flight in 1937.
Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, disappeared over the Pacific during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe. The disappearance has long fascinated historians and the public.
Trump called her story “interesting” and said the release was meant to provide transparency and settle long-standing questions about her fate.
Trump on Comey Indictment: “This Is About Justice”
Speaking to reporters before departing the White House for the Ryder Cup in New York, President Trump addressed the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, rejecting the idea that it was politically motivated.
“This is about justice,” Trump said when asked if the charges were revenge. He alleged that Comey “lied” in previous testimony before Congress.
Trump also predicted “there will be others” facing charges, without naming specific individuals or providing evidence.
Other Key Updates
-
Gaza Talks — Trump said he believes “we have a deal on Gaza,” referring to reported negotiations that could include a plan for hostages and possible peace arrangements. Details remain unclear.
-
New Tariffs — Trump announced significant import tariffs: 50% on cabinets and bathroom vanities, 30% on upholstered furniture, 25% on heavy trucks, and 100% on certain branded pharmaceuticals not manufactured in the U.S. The move aims to boost domestic production but faces questions about trade impact.
-
Domestic Terrorism Memorandum — Trump signed an order directing DOJ, Homeland Security, and Treasury to increase focus on “anarchists” and “far-left” extremism. Experts note that Antifa — which Trump singled out — is not an organized group but a political movement opposing authoritarianism and white supremacy.
-
Death Penalty Directive in D.C. — Trump signed a memo urging Attorney General Bondi and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro to pursue the death penalty in Washington, D.C., where capital punishment has been abolished since 1981. Legal experts say it’s unclear how this would apply under federal authority.
-
Dallas ICE Facility Shooting — Trump blamed “radical left rhetoric” for a shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas earlier this week that left one detainee dead. Investigators have not confirmed the motive.
Context & Takeaway
The administration is escalating both security and policy actions — from sending DOJ agents to protect ICE facilities amid rising protests to pursuing new transparency moves (like the Earhart record release) and trade measures. Some of Trump’s claims — particularly about political groups and motives behind attacks — remain unverified or politically disputed and should be treated with caution.
