Cory Monteith's parents have sadly passed away weeks apart, following his death over a decade ago. Cory died in 2013, just before filming began for Glee season five.

Cory's parents divorced when he was a child, and he was estranged from his father at the time of his death. The actor, who was 31, died in 2013 from a heroin and alcohol overdose, which police ruled an accident.

At the time, his father, Joe, said that Cory's death was "ripping my insides out and tearing me apart," revealing that 11 years had passed without the two seeing each other. Five years after his death, in 2018, Cory's mother, Ann McGregor, told People: “My world totally stopped. And I’m a different person than I was before.” She added that Cory "wasn’t ready for the Hollywood world" and "drugs were his way of checking out."

Tragically, both of Cory's parents have now passed away within 37 days of each other. Ann passed away on June 18, 2025, at the age of 74, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, Canada, after suffering from an illness. Meanwhile, Joe Monteith passed away on May 12, 2025, at the age of 75. Joe had been receiving care in a palliative unit after a long stay in the hospital.

An obituary for Ann reads: “Ann enjoyed her time gardening, along with her artistic pursuits on her acreage in Shirley, BC, together with Cornelius, Harley, and her love birds. Ann was a person of strong character and she carried that throughout her life.”

Meanwhile, Joe's obituary states that he will "forever be remembered by friends and family for his witty sense of humor and love for baseball."

Cory Monteith, who had struggled with substance abuse, was found dead in a hotel room in Vancouver. He had received rehab treatment just months before his death in March 2013.

Ten years after Cory’s death, his Glee co-star Lea Michele shared a heartfelt tribute to her late boyfriend on social media. She wrote, “Hey you. 10 years. It feels like only yesterday that you were here and yet a million years ago all at the same time. I hold all of our memories in my heart where they will stay safe and never forgotten.”

Underneath a black-and-white picture of the pair together, Michele added: “We miss you every day and will never forget the light you brought to us all. I miss you, big guy.” She also expressed, “I hope you found Taylor up there and are playing the drums together.”

Cory and Lea starred opposite one another on Glee as boyfriend and girlfriend Rachel Berry and Finn Hudson. The pair began dating off-screen in 2012, and their relationship continued until Monteith’s tragic death. The third episode of the fifth season of Glee, entitled "The Quarterback," was made in tribute to Cory Monteith and his character, who also died on the show.
